Positive mindset
To improve your digital knowledge and in fact any knowledge, you first need to believe that youcan change. A leading neuroscientist, Dr Michael Merzenich, says that “you can be better, stronger, and more effective, regardless of your current neurological status.”
Minimise distractions
To maximise learning, try to reduce distractions. Yarno videos are designed to use both the visual and auditory channels of your brain. So it’s important that they are free and have capacity to receive information.
If you’re at work this could mean:
- Closing your email
- Setting any instant messaging software to away or offline
- Forwarding your landline to voicemail
- Putting headphones in
- Finding a quiet space
Use the leave behinds and video resources
Each Yarno video has additional resources such as leave behinds, templates and links to more information. These are designed to broaden your knowledge of the concept presented in the video.
Apply what you’ve learnt in practice
Each Yarno video covers at least one digital concept. Learners get the best results when they use what they’ve learnt within a few days. Often real world examples will be different to the ones you’ve learnt about. And that’s ok. We focus on core concepts so that they can be applied to many situations.
Spaced repetition
Knowledge retention is greatly improved when you refresh your memory after a period of time. This method of learning is called spaced repetition. For Yarno videos we suggest re-watching videos after 3 to 7 days.
